Sandy Lam Breathe

p.s. Thanks for the CD!

The Forbidden City – A portrait of an Empress

September 10, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Kit Chan

Went to watch the Forbidden City yesterday afternoon. It was a matinee show, but the theatre was packed. Everyone was there to support the local art scence?!

The performance was good. The set was quite innovative to potray the majestic past, and the costumes were quite real. Some singers needed to improve their diction though, as there was some slight slur that made it difficult to hear exactly what they were singing. I had to refer to “Chinese Subtitles” every once in a while to get the right meaning. Haha! The score and music of the whole musical was plain musical style. No great break through and no really memorable tunes.

What I did like about the show was that it brought a human side to the Empress Cixi. The show wanted to bring out the female side and human side of the Empress which was contrary to all the “facts” that we have been fed about her ambition, her power hunger, her cruelty, her insincerity and her immorality by “kiling her son”. (well, I dun think she really killed her son, it’s a mother’s instinct thing to not do so, right?)

So, 2 thumbs up for the show, nonetheless.

After the show, ended up at Imperial kitchen for dinner at Marina Square. They served alot of shanghainese dishes. Quite expensive too, considering that the prices were Singapore equivalent of Chinese prices. A bowl of la mian cost S$6, which is equals to the price numerically in China RMB 6. Food was good, especially the fu yong egg with crab meat and dried scallop.

And after shopping for my mouse, I got dessert. ok … need to do something about it tmr … Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream (which I think is quite expensive!) 3 scops of ice cream in a waffle bowl cost a whopping S$12.50.

and the day was good. (I’m learning this from friends or friends’ friends…

Thank God for the MacBook!
Thank God for the beautiful musical – Forbidden City.
Thank God for mum that sponsors part of the cost of the musical.
Thank God for friends to watch the msical with and have dinner with.
Thank God for it all.

Have a great week ahead!

Because of you – Kelly Clarkson

September 2, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Kelly Clarkson - Because of you

I will not make the same mistakes that you did
I will not let myself cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did
You fell so hard
I’ve learned the hard way, to never let it get that far

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don’t get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust
Not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you…
I am afraid

I lose my way
And it’s not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that’s weakness in your eyes
I’m forced to fake a smile, a laugh
Everyday of my life
My heart can’t possibly break
When it wasn’t even whole to start with

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side
So I don’t get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust
Not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you…
I am afraid

I watched you die
I heard you cry
Every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry
In the middle of the night
For the same damn thing..

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don’t get hurt
Because of you
I tried my hardest just to forget everything
Because of you
I don’t know how to let anyone else in
Because of you
I’m ashamed of my life because it’s empty
Because of you
I am afraid

Because of you….
Because of you…you…

Germany vs Italy

July 5, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Just to be slightly relevant to my title of this entry, I relate the account I had with my RAS Group friend.

Friend a: Who do you think will win the match, Germany or Italy?
Me: Erm … You are not asking the right person. I don’t watch Soccer. BUT, I say Italy will win.
Friend b: That’s not confirmed. This time the Germans got alot of advantages – home ground, supporters, their morale very good.
Friend a: Yup, this time could be Germany.
Me: Like I said, I have no idea, BUT Italy will win.

This morning I while heading off to the Office, on TV Mobile I saw that Italy had won the match 2 – 0. (“,)

IMM has changed quite a bit from the last time I went. Well, everything else is the same, except for the major construction going on outside. Japanese food (Hosai) at the 3rd level of IMM is so – so. For the same price, head else where. BUT, they do give UOB card holders 15% discount, so that is a deal breaker.

Got back my iPod. (Finally!) No apparent problem. Just a software issue. Apparently, they restored the system and it worked. Hmm … bad quality production?! Questionable quality … makes me think twice about MacBook. Considering that if anything happens to the laptop, only Apple can fix it. At least with a PC, anybody can attempt repairs. (**THINKS**)

我来也肉干 … NICE! Travelled all the way from KL, ah! It’s delicious. Slightly sweet, not too salty, not too oily, chewy but not too hard. Good! Ranks up there with my other favourite ba kwa … gourmet ba kwa 经典肉干 … that is a total league of it’s own … fatty, oily, BUT delicious. (**sinful**)

Regular Expression matching. I have a text file containing rather horrible formatted information. Tried to do simple string manipulation such as tokenizing, but appears that it’s more than meets the eye. Now, trying to read up on REGEX to see if it can solve the problem. (**Hopeful**)

iPod Battery Replacement (Default)

July 1, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I’m not happy with service from Apple Service Centre (again).

The last time it was at Apple @ Wheelock Place. They insisted they did not change battery for the 4G 40GB iPod.

This time it is at Apple @ Cineleisure. They changed my 4G 40GB iPod battery for S$108 and it took only 3 working days. I was happy with the service till then. After charging up the iPod, and transferring songs over, I listened and felt that there was some difference in sound quality. I felt it was probably some new firmware which restricted sound level (I never updated my iPob before that). I realized soon enough within the next few days, when I next listened to it, that there was some problem with sound. Either, sound only comes from 1 ear phones, or the sound is muffled playing on background music without singer’s voice or just very bad treble only sound. I’m upset. Initially, when I saw that they gave a “new” or “refurbished” set to me without my scratches even, I thought their service was Good, but now I know how shoddy their service quality is.

Need to get down to Orchard Cineleisure to check with them. They better don’t charge me anything for it … if not!!! (I could soooooo boycott Apple for life after that and re-embrace my Favourite brand – Sony.)

Kiss Goodbye – 王力宏

June 29, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Wang Lee Hom

每一次 kiss you goodbye

I’m going to tell you a secret

June 24, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Am I?

If a secret is told then it won’t be a secret anyone, will it? It loses it’s charm, it loses it’s appeal, it loses it’s ability to attract and entice. In revealing, a secret loses it’s identity and ceases to be a secret and hence forfeits it’s much coveted title. Yet, by not ever revealing itself, how can one ever know that the secret actually mattered?

Madonna’s latest world tour hits the shelf. Songs are good, but the energy seems to be lacking compared to her Drowned World Tour. Haven’t watched the included dvd, yet. Shall do so soon.

I wonder if my cleaner auntie will come tmr. (That’s the problem with immigration.)

Lemon Tea

June 24, 2006 · 1 Comment

I decided to call this sub-domain which holds my blog Lemon Tea. Why? I like Lemon Tea. In the full range of drinks available on sale, the safest bet for me is always a good glass of (Ice Cold) Lemon Tea. There can be Coca Cola, Pepsi Twist, Sprite, Kickapoo (quite sad that it relinquish to such a sorry state) but for me, in all places, there will always be Lemon Tea. My next favourite drink would probably be Iced Milk Tea (with honey and not too much milk), but that’s for another story/blog/sub-domain.

It happened on Tuesday night. My website hosted with Corpus (Singapore) just disappeared. There was no news of downtime, no news of any kind in fact. My website simply disappeared without a trace or sound. I was damn upset. Why? (Who wouldn’t?) I had just transferred to this site, and did my new layout and all, transferred all my data onto that host and then *crash*. All my information was gone. My old blog entries I still had back up with blogger, but there was something else within that site that I had no back up which I had taken a long long time to prepare.

Last night, on my way back home, I whispered a prayer for the site to come back on so that I could just back up everything and get out of there. It did. Praise the Lord!

I’m quite about done backing everything up to what it was. Still trying to fix some minor redirection problem, hopefully will get that solve very soon.

On Tuesday, went to have dinner with chinhong and – you are finally starting work, heh! All the best!

On Thursday, went to the Ritz Carlton – Summer Pavillion for dinner with my dad and company. Thanks for the dinner! I enjoyed the food and also the wine very much! Also got to “test drive” my dad’s car – Toyota Camry – and I realized why it is such a popular car. It’s a very smooth car to drive, possibly even smoother than a BMW (my only qualm about BMWs are its too heavy steering wheel). Must thank someone for being soooo considerate and ‘lending’ me blog space that night. Non blogging for too long can be quite exasperating! (“,)

Friday night, my friend from Asiaworks got married. Attended the wedding at Furama Riverfront Hotel and met up with a whole bunch of them from way back. Has it been 4 years already? Yes, I am still studying – graduating very soon!

I got my iPod back! Went to town this afternoon to get it back.

I bought Madonna’s Live cd+dvd – “I’m going to tell you a secret.”
Chinhong, I will send you soon. =)

I got a new host. Anyone remember godaddy.com. So far so good, though they don’t have some features that I would like in a host, but I guess their price is reasonable, not too cheap like a certain Cor*** which crashes whenever they like.

Ok, gg church laters. Been 2 weeks since I have been there.
