I went to watch the show with my mum at night at Tiong Bahru. It was some UOB discount voucher that we got the tickets for like $6 only. (Cheap!)
The show was great! It really brought out alot of Singapore reality. It potrayed the lifes and hopes f typical Singaporeans. The stress and pressure of Singaporeans from expectations of self, family members and friends. Also brought out the continual pursuit of material wealth which leads to nothing but death as the End. You cannot take away cash, you cannot take away credit cards, you cannot take away a condo, you cannot take away a country club.
The reality of the keen competition in Singapore is also brought out in the show. You must be a ’somebody’ to begin to be a ’somebody’. If you are not, act and look the part of a ’somebody’ then you can go far in your life and career.
The fundamental flaws in society today is that most people respect cash and power over the individual human being. Like what Uncle Rocky Soh mentioned yesterday over beer, treat your neigbours well and you will go far. We need to respect our neighbours, our fellow peers, our family and our friends. We must treat them like human beings and neither scoth nor look down upon them.
One more thing the show brought up was the dreams and hopes of Singaporeans. It was an interesting scene where a Singaporean was being compared with a Chinese. One gives up their dreams to do something they do not like to earn money to buy things that they hope will make them happy. The other does what they do not like to earn money in hope that one day they have enough money to do the things they like (fulfill their dreams). You most certainly can guess which nationality I refer to in both cases.
I liked the show!
I enjoyed the whole evening of church, dinner and the movie, but immediately after the movie, my mood became foul due to incidences around me.
Singaporeans are so inconsiderate and uncivilized. I must say that I like in a most inconsiderate ‘civilized’ city. We are brought up with morals and civl knowledge, but it appears that we had flush it all down the drains.
People litter the cinemas, when there was a trailer reminding people to dispose of litter properly.
People talk in the cinemas, when there was a reminder for them to turn their mobiles off.
People drive without care for others, when there are drive safely campaigns.
People litter the roads, when there is a clean and green campaign.
People are not polite or civil (in alot of manners), when there is a courtesy campaign.
For a city that advocates high morals and standards, it’s people seem to be falling far short from the mark. I makes me want to be in a city where such concerns are non-existent and people just do what they like to without pretension. They litter, but it’s them. The are rude but it’s them.
I can’t do alot but I play my part.
I give way to cars on the road when they want to come into my lane.
I let others up the bus before I rush on.
I smile more.
I give people the benefit of adult more often (people do ‘bad’ things undeliberately, but as a matter of circumstances).
I am only 1 person, but I try. I know, too, that there are many out there wishing and hoping for a better and more wonderful civilized city.
